Ernie J's Lung Cancer Story:
Q- When were you diagnosed with lung cancer?
A-I was diagnosed with cancer in May, 2001.
Q-What type of lung cancer was diagnosed? Was a cause to your cancer defined?
A-I had non-small cell lung cancer, squamus cell carcinoma.
Interestingly, my oncologist did not necessarily blame cigarettes as
the cause. I think that was because I had stated that I had no one to
blame but myself, - I had smoked at least two packs of non-filters a day for about 50 years. I think he was trying to avoid the psychology of my blaming myself for the cancer.
Q-What phase was the cancer in at the time of diagnosis?
A-The cancer was stage IIIa at diagnosis. I did not find out until a year later that they considered me inoperable/incurable.
Q-What options did the doctor lay before you?
A-The doctor gave me no options. She told me that "we will be very aggressive" with treatment.
Q-What treatment methods did you undergo?
